The more of his story that came out, the more I couldn’t get enough. Zen was my favourite kind of male MC: a boy walking a knife edge between doing the right thing, and letting his demons consume him. She grew into her strength and identity without loosing the pieces of herself that made her an individual. Lan was quick witted and intelligent without being brooding or insufferable. I loved that we didn’t loose the characters despite the world building and intricate plot. The world building was lush and effortless, a true testament to Zhao’s talent as a writer. I was CONSUMED by this book for an entire weekend, I could not put it down. Populated by interesting characters who run through a page turning plot, this one ticks all the boxes. #songofsilverflamelikenight by Wen Zhao was the rich fantasy world I’ve been craving.
